[ he's going through the motions, really. he's been on the other side of this equation enough times that this whole process seems familiar. even though noctium may be a strange new place with strange things going on, it's... a strange comfort to see that bureaucracy stays the same no matter what. that doesn't mean he has to like it. there were more questions he wanted to ask aurora nyx, but he was escorted out before he could. his face takes on an annoyed look the minute the door is closed on him. ]

Tch... Hopefully someone else got more answers.

[ it's time to explore the new surroundings and everything going on here. shirou's main goal is to learn his way around the city as quickly as possible, but he won't stop himself from learning about the city and it's people. he's stopped in front of a street performance, watching this one-man band play several instruments. He tilts his head to look at another performer just down the street. ]

No, Shirou knows better than anyone what happens when you try to hide what you are. It's better to get it out in the open, so that you don't end up worse in the end. The locals... they are probably putting on a mask of some sort. There's no city that is as welcoming to outsiders like this without them having done something first. There's something they want, he's certain of that, but what, he's not sure.

Shirou tilts his head. It's almost... canine in nature. "I don't meet many beastmen from outside the city, that's all."

[ he... hasn't done this in a while, but he holds his hand out to shake ]

[ He's pretty formal. Louis offers his hand and shakes with Shirou. If they're going to be neighbors, at least he should know who his neighbor is. ]

[ Human hands are weird, if only because it's so -- well, furless. His eyes drop down to the hands in a shake, and shortly after, he withdraws it. He doesn't let it linger. ]

It's good to meet you. Hopefully our other neighbors will share the sentiment.

[ soon enough he'll find out the truth. he doesn't look too weirded out by shaking a deer hand. more familiar than someone who looks like him should be. ]

[ he scoffs at her. he's quite used to how she talks to him by now, and even welcomes it at times. that doesn't mean he has to take it lying down. ]

I've been making my way around, trying to learn as much as I can.

[ you can't fault him for not finding her right away but that brings up a good question ]

Have... you tried doing anything with your body? [ you know, stretchy arms or wings or fluffy tail? ]

Huh? Oh. Now that you mention it, I was feeling so bad when I first showed up, I didn't even think about using them.

[Michiru puts her hand to her chin, crossing her arm as she thinks about it.]

Why, is something weird?

[Not hesitating further, Michiru focuses hard— and arcs her arm up in a far-too-long loop before prodding Shirou right in the top of the head.

Her powers seem to be just fine; or at least they're available to the extent she's already discovered before.]

[ quickly shirou shifts into his wolf form. he focuses in on michiru, her scent. he can tell where she's been, but not anything else ]

I can't track as well.

[ he looks at her from the side of his eyes. ]

All my senses are dulled.

Huh.

[Michiru's hand un-stretches back into place, and she crosses her arms, looking Shirou over as if she has any sort of clinical awareness that could diagnose his issue.]

So you lost your super-sniffing, huh?

[ he runs a hand across his face in annoyance at the situation, not at her.

[She rubs her chin, further inspecting Shirou, before deciding; ]

Well, I can't say I'm mad about you not knowing every single move I make, but it is pretty weird.

You don't think it has anything to do with the weird crystals, do you?

[ It's strange, having been able to do it for much longer than Michiru has been around. But he makes a face at that comment, excuse he only did it when investigating. ]

Probably. [ he raises a hand to gently tap at the crystal on his chest ] Maybe it's limiting them a bit.

Huh. I guess that could be it. I wonder why...

[She crosses her arms again, but shakes her head.]

I'm sorry. It's probably a lot weirder for you than it is for me. I've only had these powers— well, I only learned I even had them once we met.

[She understands that for someone as old as Shirou, it probably feels a lot different.]

But... at least it doesn't seem we're too unwelcome here. Maybe it'll be fine.

[ looking around at everything and then looking at her ]

A city with a sudden influx of refugees.

[crossing her arms, she gives shirou a sly smile.]

But now you're on the other side of the equation for once.

[ as much as he can enjoy what's going on, there's no hiding the distrust within him ]

No city would be this happy about this many people showing up.

They're fools through and through. They brand us with stone and tell us to find our way. What a joke.

[Even if the scientists seemed equally perplexed by all of this-he doesn't care. He's not a happy camper.]

I did. I got no answers from them.

Then I won't waste my breath with them. The inhabitants of this city may have more answers than those in charge, if we find the right people.

That's right. We just need to look for the ones most upset at the city.

We could start where most are gathering. Far too many are being drawn in by the trinkets.
